Today I'm interviewing Cat Devon about Sleeping With The Entity, her first in a new series – and we'll find out just who is Cat Devon–" I wanted a new name. I chose Cat because it’s short for my name Cathie and also because I have an affinity with cats and have several rescued cats (SEP calls me the cat whisperer). I chose Devon because it is my favorite county in England."

Overview
Sleeping with the Entity Cat Devon
Meet Daniella Delaney. She’s all ready to open her shop, Heavenly Cupcakes, in one of Chicago’s sleepier districts. But she’s having a hard time convincing the local business association—namely Nick St. George—that she’s a good addition to the neighborhood. Daniella hopes that her famous red velvet cupcakes will be enough to melt any man’s heart. But Nick is no ordinary man. ...

Cat welcome to my blog, I’m very excited to be interviewing you. I reviewed Tempted Again for RT reviews magazine (small world huh).
Indeed!  And thanks for the great review you gave my book TEMPTED AGAIN!

Cat- why the new identity for your brand new paranormal series?
Because this is a new subgenre for me – paranormal normal romances as opposed to contemporary romances – I wanted a new name. I chose Cat because it’s short for my name Cathie and also because I have an affinity with cats and have several rescued cats (SEP calls me the cat whisperer). I chose Devon because it is my favorite county in England.

Tell us about the upcoming novel Sleeping with the Entity.
It’s the vampire (Nick St. George) and the cupcake maker (Daniella Delaney).  My local cupcake store Sugar Monkey was very helpful in supplying me with cupcakes!  The book is set in the Chicago neighborhood known as Vamptown to its vampire inhabitants and no one else.  Daniella hopes that her famous red velvet cupcakes will be enough to melt any man’s heart.  But Nick is no ordinary man. He’s got fangs.

You have another one coming out in July. How are they related?
THE ENTITY WITHIN comes out July 2nd and is also set in Vamptown.  This one features a vampire Demon Hunter named Damon Thornheart and a witch named Zoe Adams.   When Zoe moves into Vamptown, all hell breaks loose! You can get more info on all my Cat Devon books on my website catdevon.com.

Do you have a set number in this new series?
It’s open-ended at this point, but I am writing the third in the series which is LOVE YOUR ENTITY and it comes out December 31st!  I also have a holiday e-story, THE ENTITY WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS, coming out in October or November so watch for that.

One promo advertises this new series as “A new twist on the vampire story”.
Can you expand on that for us?
My characters are very real to me and that was the case with this series.  So I ask questions some might not think to ask vampires.  When you read the books, you’ll see what I mean .  The stories also feature fast-paced dialogue, a strong sense of community, quirky secondary characters, and memorable heroes and heroines.  Oh and hot sex. Lots of that as well.  The 4 star review for SLEEPING WITH THE ENTITY from RT says “Like a dose of humor with your vampire romance? Then Devon has a Chicago-based series for you as she kicks things off with the offbeat and charming SLEEPING WITH THE ENTITY…This is one delightful paranormal romp!”  They also listed it as HOT.  And the book also received a highly coveted Starred Review in Booklist!

I absolutely love the titles for two upcoming novels in your new paranormal series.
How much input did you have in choosing the titles?
The first title was entirely the brainchild of my awesome and brilliant editor Jennifer Enderlin at St. Martin’s Press.  We came up with the second and third titles from a list we both put together.

Cat; tell us how your personal road led from a university law librarian to an author?
I had to have emergency surgery and I realized that life wasn’t open-ended.  If I wanted to write, I had to just do it.  I gave myself one year to get published and came within two weeks of that deadline when my first editor called and bought my book.

You’ve received numerous awards including Romantic Times Career Achievement Award-Storyteller of the Year, EHarlequin Reader’s Choice Award, Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award and more.
Is there one that’s more special than the others?
The RT Storyteller of the Year award was a huge honor and still is.  As a writer, that’s what I want to do.  Tell compelling stories.  Of course, in the vampire world “compelling” means something else entirely.

Do you have a funny/strange author event/signing story you could share with us?
I’m often asked where the bathroom is at bookstore signings, so I try to find that info out ahead of time. It’s the librarian in me.  I want to help people find things.

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
Dark chocolate.  A new entry for me in my guilty pleasures arena are the Sea Salt Brownie Petites from Trader Joe’s.

Do you have any events or signings planned for the new novel where fans could meet you in person?
I will be signing SLEEPING WITH THE ENTITY at Anderson’s Bookshop in downtown Naperville, Illinois on Saturday June 8th at 2pm.

Cat; thank you so much for answering a few questions.
Good luck with the new novel(s).
Thanks, Debbie!  I had fun and ate red M&M’s while answering your great questions.
I would have eaten those Trader Joe Sea Salt Brownie Petites but I am all out.  Eeek! Definitely have to get more soon!  Meanwhile, please visit my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/catdevonauthor or follow me on Twitter @catdevonauthor

  1. I like the sound of this series and while its paranormal it sounds like it has an urban fantasy feel which I love, thanks for sharing this very informative interview!
